In the new series on our blog, each time will be presenting one of the many great artists in the Babylons family, starting with the prominent and honorable Turkish painter Prof. Dr. Gülten İmamoğlu.
We see NFTs as the natural evolution of artistic representation. In Babylons we are very much excited about the intersection of traditional art forms and the possibilities the NFT space have made available. For this first Artist Spotlight article, we are thrilled to be highlighting Prof. Dr. Gülten İmamoğlu, two works of whom are proudly listed on Babylons NFT marketplace.
Prof. Dr. İmamoğlu is our 30th Ambassador Artist, in our beloved program to celebrate Babylons’ creation with the Babylons Genesis Collection consisting of 101 individual art works by unique and talented artists from over 30 countries on the globe. You can read more about the Genesis Collection in our latest community update where we explain the one-of-a-kind utility that comes with these Genesis NFTs.
Mutation / Bee (2019) is a high-fidelity scan of her same-titled acrylic-on-canvas work. In the artist’s own presentation, “[it] questions the possibly devastating effects of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) on humanity and the global environment”. The original is on 175 x 135 cm canvas.
Her other work, Love Garden is a high-definition scan of her acrylic-on-canvas piece. The title of the piece is allusion to the ephemerality of life, as explained by Prof. Dr. İmamoğlu herself.
The attempt to stop the time god from moving and stay at the moment is the rawest emotion in this piece. [The piece] immortalizes the idea that love is the only thing that makes life worth living by creating an abstract Love Garden where all the moments of affection grow like metaphorical flowers.
This is perhaps one of the most exciting listings on our marketplace, as the original 195 x 290 cm artwork will be shipped along with the NFT pioneering the “phygital” revolution.
Prof. Dr. Gülten İmamoğlu was born in 1970. After serving as an art professor for 27 years in prestigious universities, the artist has retired from academia in 2019. She has won numerous international awards including “WOMAN OF THE YEAR 2011” given by the American Biographical Institute. She has been using a unique painting technique called “organic metastrata”, which she conceptualized and started practicing in 2010.
She has participated in various art shows including Singapore ArtStage, Basel/Scope Miami, Contemporary İstanbul, Art Hamptons, New York ArtExpo, Spectrum Miami, Artist İstanbul, San Francisco Sausalito, and IAAF. Her artworks are in significant private collections as well as public and local museums, such as Las Vegas South Nevada Fine Art Museum, Germany Hagen Osthaus Museum, and Baksı Museum. In 2009, she was awarded with first place in the “professional painting” category in London International Creative Competition (LICC).
While working with well-known art galleries around the world, she has been continuing to paint in her art studios in Washington DC, Istanbul, and Samsun (Turkey). The artist has been exploring themes of existence through the lenses of time and seed in her work with a great focus on the fact that humans are a small part of the endless change in the universe.
